The funeral will usually take place between 12 to 16 days after the death. For faiths that need the funeral to take place sooner, please speak to us as this can be arranged. If a Coroner has instructed a post-modem or inquest, then the funeral service may be delayed but don’t worry as this is normal.

Embalming is an optional process that you may request following the death of a loved one. Its purpose is to delay the natural breakdown of cells to preserve the body for longer. Some religions do not allow it and it is not permitted for natural burials due to the chemical content of the fluid. This option will be required if you would like an open casket funeral.

In most cases, the attending doctor will issue the Medical Cause of Death Certificate and once you have this form, you can instruct the services of a funeral director.

If the death was not due to natural causes and the Coroner has become involved, the body may be taken to a hospital mortuary for a post mortem or may be held there while an inquest takes places. In cases where the Coroner has become involved, they will provide you with the documentation you need and will advise when you can instruct funeral directing services.

You need to register the death ideally with a Register Office in the district where the death occurred as it may make the process quicker. However, if that is inconvenient, you may use any Register Office. The local office to us is Pontypridd Register Office. Contact details are listed below:
