Leanne

Managing Director of Morgan T. Vowles, Pontyclun Funeral Services, Humphreys Funeral Home Porth & Griffith Memorials Monumental Masons.

My name is Geraint Llewelyn Griffith my mother and father are Jennifer, and John Griffith I was born in East Glamorgan Hospital Pontypridd on the 4th of January 1979 from when I was born, I lived in Graigwen Pontypridd and went to Pontsionorton Primary school & then onto Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Rhydyfelin. My lifetime dream was to work with my Uncle Mog at his Funeral home in Trehafod Pontypridd, I couldn’t wait for the day I could finish school & go to work with my uncle. During my time in school, I played rugby & Judo but my fondest memory of growing up was at the end of the day in school I would go to Trehafod and work with my uncle cleaning cars, furnishing coffins and generally working around the funeral home. I would work there during the school holidays and any free time I had. Once I finished my GCSE, I was accepted to The Lear School of Mortuary Science in Kingston Upon Thames London at the age of 15 at that I was one of the youngest Embalmers in the country. I graduated from The Lear School of Mortuary Science in Kingston Upon Thames London in October 1997 as a fully qualified embalmer earning me the initials after my name of M.B.I.E. I then returned home to work with my Uncle Mog and during this time I assisted many of the local funeral directors with driving, Embalming & call outs.

2002 saw Morgan and Geraint acquire an old and well established memorial masonry company based in Trelaw, Porth, formerly known as Griffith Evan & Son, then Heritage memorials, upon acquisition the company name was changed to Griffith Memorials. The business remains part of the firm, supplying and fitting bespoke memorials, inscriptions, and grave renovations across the UK.

In 2005 we were left the business of R.M. & G.M. Edward Funeral Directors in Pontyclun Mr Edward was retiring from work and to make the deal legal Mr Edwards had to sell me the business for £1.00. We then changed the name to Pontyclun Funeral Services and my wife Leanne Griffith became the director.

In July 2019 Morgan Leanne & my Self bought a local business in Pontypridd called Seren Funeral Services we changed that to Morgan Vowles Funeral Directors & Monumental Masons.

In February 2020 Morgan Leanne & my Self bought Humphreys Funeral Home Porth.

In 2007 I Married Leanne Jones from Porth and in July 2008 our son Dylan-Morgan Griffith was born. I unfortunately don’t get to spend much time with them as my job is very demanding. But as we are a family business & they help and support me through this every day.

I am committed and passionate about my businesses and my role in the communities as a Funeral Director & Monumental Mason I enjoy my role because I know I am helping people at the worst time of their lives and being able to do this with the upmost professionalism, Dignity & Pride in our job. I came up with a slogan many years ago which I think is most fitting to describe what I and my business are all about.

Our Family Helping Yours

I continue to run the business with the help of a 1st class team of employees who are all dedicated to providing at the highest standard of service to the families we are intrusted to take care of along with my Wife Leanne and of course My Beloved Uncle Morgan Vowles.

We pride ourselves in creating a completely professional and personalised service, unique to each family we serve.

Thank You All

Geraint L. Griffith M.B.I.E.

Dedicated to Providing Professional and Thoughtful Funeral Services

To ensure that we continue to provide high standards of service, we employ a fully qualified team that participate in continued professional development. We are also members of leading funeral directing associations which enables our team to stay informed on all developments within the profession.

Our History

The company was founded by Morgan T. Vowles, a bachelor who was born in 1941 and raised in a small mining village in the Valleys called Trehafod. Prior to establishing the firm, Morgan pursued a career in mechanical engineering. During this time, he worked at a garage where the owner had a fleet of funeral cars. From time to time, Morgan would help with driving these vehicles amongst other duties.

1940s

In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s Morgan started a local taxi and carriage masters service in Trehafod, Pontypridd. He owned a fleet of limousines and a hearse, so this led to him being asked to arrange funeral services for local bereaved families. In 1971, he converted the old doctor’s surgery next door into a Private Chapel of Rest.

1960s

The funeral directing business flourished through the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s alongside his undertakers carriage hire, taxi service, wedding car hire service and garage repair workshop.

1990s

In 1994, Geraint Llewelyn, Morgan’s nephew, joined the company. During his first two to three years, Geraint attended the Lear College of Mortuary Services in Kingston-Upon-Thames in London. While studying, he worked for a large corporation of funeral directors and learned his trade as an embalmer.

In 1996, Geraint graduated and has developed the business into what it is today. He is now responsible for the day to day running of the firm, with Morgan T Vowles as an adviser by his side.

2002 saw Morgan and Geraint acquire an old and well established memorial masonry company based in Trelaw, Porth. Formerly known as Griffith Evan & Son, then Heritage memorials, upon acquisition the company name was changed to Griffith Memorials. The business remains part of the firm, supplying and fitting bespoke memorials, inscriptions and grave renovations across the UK.

2000s

In 2004, the company acquired R.M. & G.M. Edwards, a local funeral director in Pontyclun. When Mr Edwards retired, the company was purchased from the family and the name was changed to Pontyclun Funeral Services. This branch was subsequently refurbished into a modern and comfortable funeral home. This newly refurbished branch meant we could begin to support families throughout the Vale of Glamorgan, Cowbridge, Pontyclun, Llanharry, Bryanna, Llantrisant, Beddau, Llantwit Fadre, Tonyrefail, Efalisaf, Groesfaen, Cardiff and all the surrounding areas.

Between 2006 and 2007, we acquired a large premises next door to our funeral home in Trehafod. Throughout 2008 the premises was refurbished and modernised to include offices, arranging rooms, viewing rooms, a chapel of rest and state-of-the-art mortuary facilities. The development of this branch meant we could employ more staff and provide support to bereaved families in the communities of Trehafod, Llwyncelyn, Trebanog, Porth, Pontypridd, Hopkinstown, Graigwen and all the surrounding areas.

In 2019, we acquired Parc/Seren Funeral Home in Pontypridd. This was rebranded to become a branch for Morgan T Vowles Funeral Directors.

Humphreys Funeral Home in Porth is the latest funeral directors to join the firm. Morgan T Vowles acquired the funeral directors in February 2020 following the retirement of its former directors.

In 2019, we acquired Parc/Seren Funeral Home in Pontypridd. This was rebranded to become a branch for Morgan T Vowles Funeral Directors.
